Using dual fluorescence and brightfield optics, the LUNA-STEM™ can distinguish between cells and debris.
In as little as 30 seconds, the LUNA-STEM™ captures, merges, and analyzes images from three channels to produce cell count and viability data.
Nucleic stains make sure that nucleated cells are counted as live or dead cells whereas nonnucleated cells are counted as non-nucleated cells.
PDF reports complete with images and data are automatically generated and can be transferred to a PC or printed for your records.

Mallory Family Wellness
The LUNA-STEM unit has proven to be a very convenient and useful addition to our stem cell procedures. It provides a quicker and more accurate method of counting nucleated cells from both bone marrow and adipose tissue than the traditional manual method. The printed reports are clean and easy to import to the patient’s electronic medical record. The process is also not only quicker than manual cell counting but is also cleaner, avoiding the mess, hassle and expense of dyes and hemocytometer slides and covers. The training provided by the LUNA-STEM field scientist was thorough, allowing quick implementation of the process. I highly recommend this unit without reservation to any clinic or facility that provides stem cell treatments.
California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute
After 25 years of being a proponent of manual counting I now find myself a LUNA-STEM convert.
Hogue Cosmetic Surgery
As a Regenerative Medicine Specialist with experience in the isolation and deployment of stromal vascular fraction (SVF) containing adipocyte-derived stem cells (ADSCs) for the treatment of degenerative orthopedic conditions since 2011, I have been asked to share my thoughts about the LUNA-STEM that I use in my practice.
During the initial years, I used a manual microscopy method using trypan blue staining to perform cell counts and viability assessments of isolated SVF specimens. During the past year, I purchased a LUNA-STEM that uses AO/PI staining. The LUNA-STEM has increased my time efficiency and accuracy in determining cell counts for nucleated and non-nucleated cells within the SVF specimen, as well as cell viability assessments. The interactive touch screen on the LUNA-STEM is easy to use.
Manual image focusing on an SVF specimen placed on a counting slide, referred to as a PhotonSlide, is very straightforward. Data reports and captured images can quickly be saved as a PDF file on an inserted USB thumb drive. For chart documentation, the LUNA Printer is great for an immediate printout of counting results.
I can honestly say that I will not be going back to my old trypan blue staining method. The LUNA-STEM universally does a better job at cell counting and viability than I can do.
Genea Biocells
We have two LUNA-STEM systems. We like it because it’s a plug and go, no startup or shut down maintenance and only a single step for fluorescence based cell count and viability analysis. For what it is, the price competitiveness of the LUNA-STEM system and consumables cannot be beaten.
Sierra Stem Cell Institute
At Sierra Stem Cell Institute, we provide regenerative injection treatments for orthopedic and other musculoskeletal conditions, utilizing PRP and stem cell preparations from bone marrow and lipoaspirate. Knowing the cell count, and viability of our preparations, at the point of care became very important. The measuring process also needed to be easy implement, simple to perform, and cost effective. The LUNA-STEM proved an excellent solution to our needs and performed beyond expectations. I highly recommend this technology to any clinic providing these services.
